Welcome to Episode 13 of "One Minute Money Message" where Simon will outline Simple Ideas to Grow, Protect and Manage Your Wealth.
"Money is only a tool.
It will take you wherever you wish,
but it will not replace you as the driver"
That's quote by Ayn Rand.
So what are three life lessons that could apply to investing?
Firstly, harness the power of compounding. So small steps can lead to big results over time, whether it might be training for marathon or learning a new skill. The same applies to investing.
A 10% annual return, similar to the market's long term historical average, can double your money every seven years.
So starting early, even with small amounts, let's compounding work in your favour, helping you to reach your goals.
Also control what you can. So life is is full of unpredictability. We can control how we prepare and how we respond in investing.
While market fluctuations are beyond our control, we can manage how much we save, the risk we take and the strategies we follow. Informed decisions can bring peace of mind, even when those outcomes vary.
Also, tune out the noise, so staying focused is crucial. Investment is from pundits or commentators or friends often distract rather than help.
Markets will naturally rise and fall, and emotional reactions to that volatility can harm your portfolio more than the actual downturn itself.
So stick to your plan, avoid the fear of missing out, and stay steady for that long term success.
